I- Sing with your body!

  • Description: Breathing well is the secret of singing, and breathing together, one of the keys of happiness. Your body is your instrument: how to deal with, in order to be more efficient when you sing? We’ll try to answer this questions working practically on simple folksongs to enrich your sound with harmonics.

II- Arabic Oriental Traditional Song (Muwashah “Billaẓi Askara”)

  • Workshop Leader: Sister Marana Saad
  • Description:The Muwashah موشّح(literal meaning “girdled”) is a term used for both Arabic-poetic form, and secular musical genre. This workshop is about muwashah “Billaẓi Askara "بالذي اسكر  which is a strophic song whose origin is from an Andalusian poem called “Zaman el-wassel”.
     Kind of Song: Sufism         
     Text: It's an old text written in classical Arabic. It deals with wine, a symbol commonly used in Sufism, as a metaphor for religious intoxication
    Melody: old one, in maqam Bayati

Bayati

  • Rhythmic mode: Oghrok أغرك -  (Dum tak tak Dum tak ‘)

Oghrok

melody and structure of the muwashah vary in sophistication. It will be performed by the entire chorus accompanied by a small ensemble.

III- The Joy of Singing for Choirs

  • Workshop Leader: Dr. Ibrahim Baltagi
  • Description: Communicating musical intent non-verbally is often exponentially more important, and more effective than verbally instructing choir members, no matter what their age or level of experience. Workshop participants will explore different elements of music such as rhythm, melody and harmony, followed by interactive exercises with motions that are consistent with intent. Over the one hour workshop, participants will improve reading and singing technique through folk songs from different parts of the world including Lebanon, resulting in better communication between singers and conductor, and vastly more efficient rehearsal time. Concepts are universally applicable to all age level choirs from elementary through collegiate singers.Duration: 60 minutes

IV- Musical battle with canons
